FALLOUT: MIAMI DEPARTMENT APPLICATION

If you’ve got skills in any of the areas needed to make Fallout: Miami a reality, make an application!

Note: All positions are unpaid – everyone on the team is volunteering their time to create this game.


3D ART DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami 3D Art Department focuses on the asset creation. We bring the concept art to life, creating highly detailed models and textures from concepts and then preparing them to be implemented in-game. We are looking for both 3D artists to make new assets, 3D animators to make new animations and 3D implementers who can take the completed 3D art and bring it into the Creation Engine.

3D ART DETAILS

Currently we are looking for available, motivated, and experienced 3D artists able to work on the full spectrum of assets, ranging from creatures, set dressing, weapons, architecture and clothing.

Requirements: 

  • Experience with 3ds Max, Blender, or Maya / Substance Painter, Photoshop or Gimp / Mudbox or Zbrush. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include experience with Nifskope and a significant existing experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit.. 

3D ANIMATION DETAILS

Currently we are looking for available, motivated, and experienced 3D animators able to work a wide range of tasks from weapons, character and creatue animations  

Requirements: 

  • Experience in Autodesk 3ds Max is preferred. Although we will accept animators familiar with similar software packages.
  • Familiarity with additive animation workflows and animation cleanup techniques are helpful as well.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

3D IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS

We’re looking for people with experience creating custom items and/or props for Fallout 4 who are interested in helping us take the models and textures produced by our 3D artists and bringing them into the Creation Engine.

Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of 3ds Max, Blender or Maya, and Photoshop or Gimp. 
  • Knowledge of how to set up 3d models in NifSkope, along with shaders collison and other relevant properties.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

2D ART DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami 2D Art Department focuses on the look and mood of Miami. We help to conceptualize the world of Miami and the objects that populate it, from characters, weapons, locations and set dressing. What we create in 2D then goes on to be modeled by the 3D art department.

2D ART DETAILS

Currently we are looking for available, motivated, and experienced 2D artists able to work on the full spectrum of prop designs and in game art.

Requirements: 

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator.
  • Strong understanding of visual design principles.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

FLASH ANIMATION DETAILS

We are looking for motivated, and experienced flash animators to develop stylized vault boy icons for the user interface.

Requirements: 

  • Experience with Adobe Flash/Animate
  • Experience with creating vector based art.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

PROGRAMMING DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Programming Department is a catch-all department for work inside the Creation Kit. Most of the work we do is not traditional coding tasks, but rather work with the various Creation Engine systems. Work inside the Creation Kit involves tasks such as implementing quests, developing gameplay systems, NPC AI scheduling, and editing records.

PROGRAMMING DETAILS

Programming create new quests and gameplay systems that add additional functionality to the game, generally through papyrus scripting. 

Requirements: 

  • Extensive experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit and coding in Papyrus. 
  • Familiarity with designing and implementing quests in Bethesda’s Creation Kit
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include knowledge on interface comunication between Papyrus and as3 and/or writing custom Script Extender plugins .

MISC IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS

Misc Implementation are tasked with creating and editing various miscellaneous records inside the Creation Kit, often to aid the work of other departments and working closely with them, such as setting up actors and objects, editing quests, adding dialogue and creating NPC AI scheduling.

Requirements: 

  • Basic understanding of Bethesda’s Creation Kit. 
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include the ability to create a navmesh, correctly set up activators and effects.


LEVEL DESIGN DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Level Design Department is tasked with creating the world of Miami. Whether it’s designing an elaborate beach storefront, an irradiated park, a dungeon, or even an flooded aquarium we offer a whole slew of tasks that help populate our worldspace.

EXTERIOR LEVEL DESIGN DETAILS

Exterior Level Designers will be working on creating the gameworld of Miami, making its distinct regions engaging to explore.

Requirements: 

  • Experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit,especially with terrain editing and cluttering. 
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • Confidence to take on large portions of the world and ability to take constructive criticism. 
  • Good artistic eye for composition and natural asset placement to encourage exploration. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

INTERIOR LEVEL DESIGN DETAILS

Interior Level Designers will be working on creating the interior locations for Miami, including stores, homes and dungeon. 

Requirements: 

  • Experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit. 
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • Good organizational skills to plan out each location in advance, with careful attention given to how the player will navigate the space. 
  • Familiar with the placement of appropriate lighting and encounters. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include the ability to create a navmesh, set up roombounds, make NPC schedules , correctly set up activators and effects.


WRITING DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Writing Department handles all narrative aspects of the game. This involves creating dialogue, lore, characters, notes, terminals, etc. The writing department also encompases certain aspects of quest design.  We work closely with the programming department in order to create a fun experience with various avenues of completion.

WRITING DETAILS

While the writing department requires creativity, it also requires a good amount of technical knowledge and familiarity with writing for an interactive medium. 

Requirements: 

  • Examples of prose and novel style writing samples are welcome, but samples that show a grasp on dialogue, such as a script are preferred. 
  • Experience with writing branching diagloue. 
  • Advanced proficiency with the English language, and the ability to write dialogue in naturalistic spoken English.
  • A provable understanding of editing best practices, with some experience editing the work of others or being edited for publication.
  • Ability to create memorable, realistic characters, demonstrating skill at writing from different regions, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to closely match the style, format, and conventions of the other scripts in a project.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit, especially implementing dialogue. Editing a wiki. Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. We would like to especially encourage submissions from qualified writers of Cuban and/or Haitian descent. It is our goal to create a world that is fun and engaging, and also feels authentic and true to the cultures represented.

 


SOUND DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Sound Department handles all other audio aspects of the game, besides voice acting. The sound department brings the world of Fallout: Miami to life by creating original and exciting audio, including the creation of environmental music, radio songs, and sound effects for a multitude of in-game assets.

SOUND EFFECTS

Sound Effects use morden sound design techniques to create audio for a multitude of in-game assets from creatues, weapons, props and environmental.

Requirements: 

  • In depth expertise in using professional audio software and sound recording equipment.
  • Ability to create dynamic SFX to match that of game design.
  • Strong sound design skills (portfolio required).
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

Additional valuable skills include experience with Bethesda’s Creation Kit, especially implementing audio.

 


VOICE DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Voice Department is responsible for bringing the world’s NPCs to life. We are looking for experienced voice acting talent who can deliver quality audio files.

VOICE ACTOR DETAILS

All VO submissions are required to meet the following criteria for submission:

Requirements: 

  • An XLR recording setup. Due to the level of interest and volume of submissions, USB, phone or laptop mics and similar will not be considered.
  • Attached character demo reel, which may be self-produced. Please submit a reel that reflects the quality of the audio you will be able to give for this mod, i.e. no studio demos if you do not have a home studio of comparable quality. We cannot consider reels that do not have any examples of “clean” audio quality, ie. without filters or effects on the VO.

We are considering only authentic Cuban and Haitian accents for Fallout: Miami. Please do not submit these accents unless it is the natural accent of you or your direct family members, or if it is an accent you have worked with a professional dialect coach on. Any non-Black actor whose demo reel or previous work includes a “blaccent” or African American Vernacular English will not be considered. Please consider this when submitting.


MEDIA DEPARTMENT

The Fallout: Miami Media Department is responsible for producing content for external media sources, from editing video footage for trailers and development updates to creating engaging content for popular social media sites and updating our private internal wiki.

VIDEO EDITOR DETAILS

 

Video Editors have an expert understanding and knowledge of video editing software and are responsible for producting video content such as trailers for our Youtube channel and in-game video content.

Requirements: 

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop. 
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • Strong understanding of the various aspects of post-production workflow: from edit to grade, post and sound design.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely. 
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.

WIKI EDITOR

Wiki Editors assist the Writing and Level Design Departments by helping to archive and update all relevant information and lore other departments need access to on our private internal developer wiki. The roles involves assisting with recording and updating quest documents, locations and other miscellaneous information. You might at times also be asked to assist with creating the backgrounds for minor locations. 

Requirements: 

  • Examples of previous long form wiki contributions on other projects and the username you used to make these contributions. 
  • Experience with MediaWiki software and using wikitext.
  • Good proficiency with the English language.
  • Ownership of Fallout 4 and all its official DLC on PC. 
  • A provable understanding of editing best practices, with some experience editing the work of others.
  • A strong knowledge of Fallout lore and gameplay systems.
  • Ability to closely match the style, format, and conventions of other wiki entries in a project.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with incorporating into teams remotely.
  • Self organized, comfortable with giving estimates and proactively communicating around timeline.
